A single output console will usually suffice for applications where flow velocities are less than 3 meters per second and/or there is a maximum test volume of 3 cubic meters. Outside of those parameters, a two output system is recommended. Another advantage to a unit with two outputs is the flexibility to seed the flow from more than one location.
The Model 5 Helium Bubble Generator requires external sources of compressed air and helium. The air supply needs to be 1.3 cfm per output at 40 psi. The helium flow is only 0.01 cfm per output at 20 psi. Standard grades of compressed air and helium are recommended. High purity gases are acceptable but not required. A filter is recommended for the air if the supply contains water or oil particulates.
The Auxiliary Air & Helium Supply is ideal for situations requiring portability or if the required supplies of compressed gases are not readily available.
The 1035 Bubble Film Solution (BFS) was specifically formulated to work with SAITM helium bubble heads. It is a reusable solution, trapped BFS contained within the Mini-Vortex Filter may be recycled as needed. Use of alternative solutions however, is not recommended. It can result in low bubble production and/or shorter bubble life. In addition, the use of other solutions may also result in plugging the metering valve orifices or clogging the hypodermic passages within the bubble head itself.
Fresh or "good" solution is essentially odorless, solution with a "alcohol" type of smell has spoiled and will generate fewer bubbles that have little to no life span. The shelf life of BFS is about 1 year when stored at 20° C. One quart of BFS will operate a two output system for up to 8 hours of testing.
This is a flexible light weight light source that provides enough illumination to visualize air flow velocities up to 9 mps. Two lights work nicely for larger flow areas or velocities up to 16 mps. The Basic Light comes complete with a carrying case, adjustable slit and iris apertures as well as a professional grade tripod capable of elevating the light to 65". For 220Vac operation a step-down transformer is available.
A good light source for general illumination or PIV applications, these units are available in 300W, 400W, 500W and 1000W systems, and are powerful enough to visualize flow velocities from 0.5 to 75 mps. With adjustable modulation built in to the power supply this light is capable of creating a "dashed" streamline which in turn can be used for calculating the velocity withing the flow field. In addition, the lamp holder can be mounted to the optical shroud, which comes with adjustable slit and iris apertures for shaping the light beam. These light systems can operate on either 115Vac or 230Vac.
